All Souls’ Day 2023
All Souls’ Day is on November 2nd. This is a day when we send special prayers for those who are no longer with us.
Please consider honoring the spirit of a loved one by making a gift to Catholic Charities in their memory this All Souls’ Day or in memory of a Catholic Charities client who has passed.
Your donation will help individuals and families who are living in poverty build toward a future of self-sufficiency and dignity. Your gift will help those who face homelessness, natural disasters, hunger, despair, and loneliness. What a beautiful gesture to honor the legacy of someone who has passed.
When you make your gift to Catholic Charities, please include the name of someone for whom you would like a prayer said this All Souls’ Day.
Here are the stories about two Catholic Charities clients who we lost too soon.
Tina was a symbol of strength as she navigated life’s challenges. She was a kind soul who loved the simple pleasures of spending time with her children and grandchildren and was known as a fabulous cook.
At 56 years old, circumstances had brought Tina to a point where she lost her home and was living in her car. When Tina found Catholic Charities’ Kathy Paulsen Hope House Shelter, she had not only a roof over her head but also a community of caring individuals dedicated to helping her rebuild her life.
After just one month at the shelter, Tina secured a full-time job, proving her determination to overcome adversity. She eagerly signed the lease for an apartment of her own. Tina was motivated and excited about the fresh start that she had worked so hard for.
Tragically, the night before Tina was scheduled to move into her new apartment, she peacefully passed away in her sleep at the shelter from a long-time medical condition.
Although her physical presence is no longer with us, Tina’s spirit lives on as an inspiration to all who knew her. Her memory is a tribute to the strength of the human spirit, a reminder that, even in the face of adversity, we can find hope and create a path to a brighter future.
John, 65, was a loving father, brother, and friend. After a long career as a trucker, John lost everything in 2013, including his home. When John entered a Catholic Charities Permanent Supportive Housing Program, he moved into a safe and stable apartment, a sanctuary to rebuild his life.
For John, this newfound stability was nothing short of a second chance at life. Filled with gratitude for the kindness he had received, John made it his mission to give back to the community that had welcomed him with open arms and to Catholic Charities, the beacon that had guided him through the darkest of nights.
John worked with the dedicated staff at Catholic Charities to extend a helping hand to those still experiencing homelessness. His compassion and understanding, through his own journey, made him a source of hope and inspiration for others.
Sadly, John passed away earlier this year from colon cancer. His time with Catholic Charities has left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
